MC2

What's new.

MC² updates itself. This is what each version brought.

0.21.6

Who you see in game

  • Choose whose pets and capes you see: everyone's, only your friends', or only your own. Settings › Friends › In game, and it changes while you play.
  • Your own pet and cape always show.

Safer capes

  • Every cape put up is checked before other players can see it. Capes that break the rules aren't shared.
  • Report a cape in game: look at the player and press K twice (you can change the key in Controls). It disappears for you right away, and you can show reported capes again from Settings › Friends.

Ranks

  • See what a rank looks like on you before you get it: your own card in its banner, frame and name style, and everything it comes with.
  • Your subscriptions are in Settings › Account › Supporter, with when they renew. Cancel in two clicks, and undo it if you change your mind. You keep the rank until the paid month ends.
  • The first 100 players get the Pioneer rank, free. MC² tells you when you're one of them.

Fixes

  • Switching accounts now switches your Cubes and friends straight away.
  • The crown sits on top of a helmet instead of inside it.

0.21.5

Installing

  • Open MC² from Downloads and it offers to put itself in Applications, with one click.
  • MC² now downloads as a disk image: drag it into Applications and you're done.

Cubes

  • Levels are gone. Everything in the Locker is bought with Cubes, so anything is yours once you have enough.
  • Nothing is lost: everything you had already unlocked through levels is still yours.

0.21.4

Signed and notarized

  • MC² is now signed and notarized by Apple. It opens straight away on any Mac, with no "unidentified developer" warning.

Playing offline

  • Your pet, cape, wearables, trail and name style show in game even when you are offline.
  • Your own skin stays on when you play offline.
  • Pressing Play while offline no longer waits up to ten minutes before the game starts.

Fixes

  • Settings, keybinds and configs copied from Windows are read correctly.

0.21.3

Fixes

  • Other players' animated capes no longer look zoomed in or low resolution.
  • A friend's cape updates when they change it, without restarting your game.

0.21.2

Fixes

  • Other MC² players' animated capes now animate on your screen, not just on theirs.
  • Animated capes are sent to other players at full detail. Put your cape on again once after updating so your friends get the sharper version.

0.21.1

Fixes for playing with friends

  • A friend's cape shows even if it arrives after you first see them, and even when you are not wearing a cape yourself.
  • Pets no longer take minutes to appear when the connection hiccups while you join a server.
  • With more than one account on the same Mac, each game shows your other accounts' real capes.

0.21.0

Pets

  • Wear a pet from the new Pet tab in the Locker and it follows you in game: 24 small versions of real Minecraft mobs, from a Mini Dragon built on the real Ender Dragon model to a wolf pup, fox kit, axolotl, allay, snifflet, mini creeper and mini warden.
  • Pets keep up however fast you go, through sprinting, long falls and elytra flight. Land pets put on elytra of their own and fly beside you.
  • Look at a pet and it stays put and looks back. Pets sit, stroll, hop, look around and do tricks of their own.
  • Press U (rebind it in Controls) to tell your pet to stay, and again to call it back.
  • Other MC² players see your pet.

Your look, in game

  • Your name style shows in game: on your name tag, in the tab list and on your name in chat. Gradients and animated styles included.
  • Changes in the Locker reach a running game straight away: skins, capes, pets and name styles. No rejoining.
  • Crowns stay on your head while gliding, swimming and crawling.

The Locker

  • App look sets everything at once: the app's colours, its icon in the Dock and menu bar, and your game's loading screen.
  • Skins and capes live in the Locker now.
  • 22 new still banners, the cheapest things in the shop.
  • 15 new animated capes for everyone, free: Molten, Northern Lights, Shooting Star, Enchanted, End Portal, Tide, Cherry Fall, Redstone Clock, Geode, Thunderhead, Sculk Pulse, Daybreak, Nether Portal, Campfire and Galaxy.

Fixes

  • MC² uses far less CPU and memory while it sits idle or in the background.
  • Your custom loading screen shows even with mods that change the loading screen, such as Flashback.
  • Friends stay connected more reliably.

Cubes and the Locker

  • Play and earn Cubes. Every minute you actually play earns one, and every level unlocks something to wear: frames, banners, name colours, profile effects, themes, accent colours, app icons and loading screens.
  • Open the new Locker to put them on. Friends see your look in their friends list and in chat.
  • Only real play counts: the game has to be in front and you have to be playing.
  • Play a little every day to build a streak for bonus Cubes.

Plugins, rebuilt

  • Every plugin in Browse is reviewed before it is listed, and MC² checks that you get exactly the files that were reviewed.
  • Plugins ask before they get anything. You see what a plugin wants and choose Allow.
  • A stuck plugin can no longer freeze MC². It shows Not responding with a Disable button.
  • Plugins can add cards to the Play screen, tabs to a pack's page, items to menus, badges in the sidebar and their own settings page.
  • New My plugins tab for making your own, and a Credits page in Settings.

Remote Play pairing

  • Your phone pairs with MC² using a 6-digit code instead of connecting openly.

Fixes

  • Games no longer quit on their own about 18 seconds after launch.
  • Safer imports: packs, worlds and plugins can no longer write outside their own folders.

0.19.0

Servers

  • Every server shows its own icon, its MOTD in its real colours and a live player count.
  • Servers that publish their address through DNS, like hypixel.net, are now found.
  • Drag servers to reorder them, and rename them.
  • Each server shows which pack joins it, and you can pick a different one.

Playing

  • Play another: start a second, third or fourth copy of a pack while it is already running, as yourself or another account.
  • Games keep running when MC² closes. Reopen it and they show up again, still counting playtime.

Updates

  • MC² checks for updates, downloads them in the background and relaunches into the new version in one click.
  • After an update, What's new shows you what changed.

Also new

  • Set up AI to build a pack from a description and to explain crashes in the Crash Doctor.
